For Experienced Potters
The Hoffman Clay Studio is excited to partner with Joe Robinson of East Creek Art to bring you a unique ceramics workshop on the art of wood firing.
The May 10th workshop will be taught in Manzanita by Joe who is the co-owner of East Creek Art. Joe has been making pots for over 20 years and is on the Art faculty at Linfield University. He holds an MFA from Oregon College of Art and Craft.
Joe will share the techniques of creating works for the wood fire kiln and the process of wood firing in the anagama kiln. He will demonstrate the wheel techniques and our own Barry Calvarese will demo the hand-building steps.
After the demos, participants will build a vessel of their own. Once dry the works from the class will be bisque fired at the Hoffman Clay Studio and transported to the anagama kiln at East Creek for firing. Interested potters may even arrange a visit to the kiln site in Willamina to see the loading or firing process first hand.
The workshop will be four hours in length, from 2 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10th.
The price for the class is $95 which includes both firings and the use of the tools in the studio. There is a $10 materials fee to cover the cost of the clay and firing.
