At a Repair Cafe, practical skills are passed on and valuable resources are saved. Bring your beloved, broken item to our team of Expert Fixers who will do their best to help you diagnose the problem, find parts, learn to use the thing or repair it right there.
Ruralite just published a nice article about the history of Repair Cafes. We are so proud to be part of this movement! Do you have a repair skill to share? Please reach out to us. We are in need of seamstresses and tech wizards.
Examples of items we can fix at a Repair Cafe:
+Fabric or leather with a small hole
+Clothing to hem
+Broken jewelry
+Kitchen appliance
+Vacuum
+Lamp
+Tool or knife for repair or sharpening
Note: We cannot fix gas-powered items, or any items too large to fit in the front door.
What to expect at a Repair Cafe:
+Arrive as close to 3, as possible.
+Check in with our volunteer when you arrive. You’ll receive one repair ticket for each item you have registered. There may be a wait depending on the number of repairs. We try to help everyone who brings an item.
+While you wait, you can: Sit with the repair person to learn about fixing your item. Enjoy tea and a snack. Browse the store.
+When there is a conclusion about your item, you’ll take your repair ticket to the register to complete the ticket. Here, you may make a donation to Heart of Cartm and tell us how darn excited you are to take home a fixed item.
!!Hot tip!! Remember to bring things for testing your item, like: new parts, power cords, batteries, connecting cables, remote controls, instruction manuals, special light bulbs.
