This interactive presentation will discuss the differences between hospice and palliative care, including how the goals of care may differ for each person receiving care. We will discuss the challenges in receiving both palliative and hospice care depending on where you reside, your insurance coverage, and the eligibility requirements. We will also discuss how to work with your healthcare providers to ensure you receive the kind of serious illness care you want.
Presenter:
Barb Hansen, MA, RN, received her BS in Nursing from the Oregon Health Sciences University and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Oregon State University, focusing on Gerontology, Community Health, and Adult Health Education. She has worked in end-of-life care in many roles since 1986. Since July 2015, Barb has served as the CEO of the Oregon Hospice and Palliative Care Association and Executive Director of the Washington State Hospice & Palliative Care Organization. Nationally, Barb serves on the NHPCO Regulatory and Council of States Committees and on the CMS Standing Technical Expert Panel for the Development, Evaluation, and Maintenance of Post-Acute Care and Hospice Quality Reporting Program Measurement Sets. Within Oregon, Barb serves on the POLST Coalition, the Advance Directive Advisory Committee, the Palliative Care and Quality of Life Interdisciplinary Advisory Council, and the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board.
