to the BBQ readership,
in response to a particular post on BBQ a few days ago–it was a Heather Cox Richardson “Letter from an American.” HCR is a political historian whose research and analysis i appreciate.
in response, a BBQ subscriber wrote me a particularly loathsome email. i was shocked by his negative, vilifying words.
disagreeing with a person does not make them a narcissist, nor arrogant, nor wrong, nor pathetic, nor a horse’s ass.
no one deserves to be vilified for expressing their political opinion. there is no reason to think that another human being is lesser, or to call them demeaning names, because they have a different political view than you do.
i am not naming him, that would be public shame. if he reads this, perhaps that will be shame enough.
IF YOU CAN’T SAY SOMETHING PUBLICLY, BECAUSE YOU CAN’T DESIST FROM USING DEMEANING, DEGRADING, DISCREDITING WORDS, PLEASE, DON’T SAY IT AT ALL!
om peace namaste
