Coming soon there will lots of news about the so-called Department of Government Efficiency and what cuts, closures, and deregulation they want to make. It’s thus good that everyone keep in mind that DOGE is NOT a department of the federal government. Departments are created by Congress and department heads are approved subject to vetting and the advice and consent of the Senate. This process has not happened and is unlikely to.
So essentially DOGE is two billionaire private citizens operating with no oversight at the behest of another billionaire, the President. All three have some very strange, non-mainstream views. What could go wrong? We are all about to find out.
Fun fact: DOGE is named after Elon Musk’s preferred cryptocurrency, Dogecoin.
