Children are out of school and the school lunch program has stopped until September. Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church in Nehalem has supplied lunches for food insecure local children for several years.
Due to State and Federal restrictions on how the food is supplied, the church is no longer receiving assistance from them. They require all food be given and eaten at a central location, without supplying transportation or supervision. This does not work for our large rural area. Money is needed to buy the lunch materials and volunteers are needed to make, pack and deliver them two days per week – Monday and Wednesday.
Volunteers can call the church at 503-368-5612 and leave a message for Bobbie.
Donations should be made out to NBUMC with “lunch” on the memo line. They can be sent to NBUMC, POB 156, Nehalem, OR 79131 or dropped off at the church at 36150 Tenth St. , Nehalem.
Kids shouldn’t have to worry about where lunch is coming from.
