THE RIVERBEND PLAYERS 2025 SEASON LINEUP

MARCH:
AGATHA CHRISTIE’S THE MIRROR CARCK’D

In this classic Agatha Christie mystery, Miss Marple investigates the mysterious death of a woman at a glamorous party thrown by a famous film star. As the secrets of the village and the glamorous guests unravel, Miss Marple must figure out the motive behind the murder before the killer strikes again.

JUNE:
SORDID LIVES by Del Shores

In a small Texas town, a Southern family comes together after the matriarch’s accidental death. With eccentric characters, including a drag queen brother and a mother in denial, Sordid Lives explores the humorous and poignant ways people cope with love, loss, and family dysfunction.

LATE SEPTEMBER:
THE INVISIBLE MAN: A LIVE RADIO PLAY adapted by Michael Gene Sullivan

In this inventive adaptation of H.G. Wells’s sci-fi classic, a small cast brings the terrifying tale of an invisible scientist to life through a live radio broadcast. With clever sound effects and voice acting, the play recreates the thrilling story of a man who becomes invisible and descends into madness.

DECEMBER:
THE HOLIDAY CHANNEL CHRISTMAS MOVIE WONDERTHON
by Don Zolidis

This parody play hilariously spoofs the formulaic and heartwarming Christmas TV movies. Multiple holiday-themed romance plots unfold as quirky characters meet in a cozy inn, all set against a backdrop of festive chaos. It’s a rapid-fire, comedic take on holiday movie clichés with a tongue-in-cheek twist.

Tickets will go on sale in December, including, for the first time, the Riverbend Players Season Pass.

Wheeler City Council Member Heidi Stacks Seeks Re-Election.

Submitted By: heidiforwheeler@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Wheeler City Council Member
Heidi Stacks Seeks Re-Election.

(Wheeler, Oregon) Wheeler City Council member Heidi Stacks has announced her candidacy for one of the three seats up for election in this November’s race. Stacks, who was appointed to her current position, is running for a 4-year term against three other candidates.
Previous to the appointed position that she has held over the past two years, Stacks served a 4-year term on City Council from which she was appointed Mayor.
With nearly seven years of experience on the council, Heidi has gathered a broad knowledge and understanding of how the Council works and how things get done in Wheeler; Heidi gets things done!
She is one of the founding architects on what has become the blue-print in local communities for emergency preparedness. She has helped establish plans for the city, as well as for individuals. Heidi has worked tirelessly to prepare Wheeler for any emergency by orchestrating the community emergency barrels that are strategically located throughout the city. She helped set up the emergency outpost that contains communication supplies, food items, tents, and more. In the event of an emergency, should Wheeler find itself cut off, the city is well prepared to take care of itself and its citizens.
Heidi chairs the Wheeler Emergency Preparedness Committee, and is a board member of the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay, a larger organization that includes Wheeler, Nehalem and Manzanita.
She is exceptional at developing relationships with others, either in town or with our neighboring communities. She is a firm believer of working in collaboration with others and she urges participation. She recently brought city business owners together to encourage their greater participation in charting Wheeler’s path forward, and looks forward to doing more work in this arena.
Heidi has lived on the North Oregon Coast for nearly 50 years. She is married to her grade school sweetheart whom she has known for 48 years. She is a mother, grandmother, a retired nurse with 30 years of service, and a former small business owner.
Her life experience has garnered an intrinsic nature to be respectful, reasonable, and responsible. “These three attributes are my promise to the citizens of Wheeler,” says Stacks. “I want to hear from everyone on what they want, and believe we need, for Wheeler. I will take these suggestions to the council and make sure those voices are heard and continually considered. We’re growing and changing as a community, and every citizen deserves a voice in how that happens.”
Ms. Stacks welcomes comments at HeidiForWheeler@gmail.com, and invites you all to the Wheeler Meet the Candidates event at the NCRD Performing Arts auditorium on Monday, October 7th at 5:45 PM.

WANDA’S TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION: UPDATE

Posting for frank@wandascafe.com
Our extensive patio construction project continues.
To enhance the comfort of our guests waiting for extended periods, we are expanding our covered waiting area to offer more shade and rain protection over the entire courtyard area.
The pergola is made of powder-coated, aircraft-grade aluminum. It should never rust, dent, or disintegrate and will withstand the most extreme coastal winds.
We are also replacing the wooden ramp and stairs with a new concrete structure that is fully ADA-compliant, replacing the steep, grandfathered-in structure.
We will continue to post more photos on our Facebook page as we progress.
Depending on how quickly the project progresses, we hope to be back open by Oct. 3rd. So far, so good!

BBQ posting clarifications

Submitted By: barbaraandchuck@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
We have been accused of not posting pro Trump posts on the bbq. With the exception of one individual THAT IS NOT TRUE.

That individual’s posts were not posted because they contained foul language and/or language attacking the character of someone. Let me be clear. Our refusal to post had nothing to do with the ideas presented in the post. Despite repeated warnings and opportunities to edit their posts, this individual continues to submit posts containing ad hominem; vilification; shaming or other contemptuous language. So we continue to refuse to post them.

If anyone else submitted a post on any subject that did not make it to the website it was strictly technical. If you do not get a thank you message after clicking on “submit” we are most likely not able to post it for some technical reason, often a problem with the size of images. If this happens to you check the home page for tips on posting or send us an email. We will do our best to get your post posted. We have been successful in helping a number of people who had technical issues get their post on the website.

Recently, for a limited time, we had a bbq survey of what people liked about their chosen presidential candidate. For that survey, we had a rule that the post couldn’t contain language about the other candidate. Since that survey has ended that rule no longer applies. As long as a post doesn’t violate the policy stated above, we will post it.

Here’s how the technical aspect works on our administrative end.

A person clicks on “here” under the heading “To Post” or in the sidebar of the home page of the website (northcoastbbq.com) and enters their zipcode and email address. A link is sent to their email. (Please be sure to check your spam if you don’t find the link in your inbox.)

Once you click on that link you get a Record ID number and you are put in our posting queue. At that time the status of that record is NO. It remains NO until you fill out the form and click on submit. If that submission is successful, (ie you get a thank you message), the status of that record then changes to YES. We can only post records with a YES status and we process those YESES daily. To keep the queue manageable, if a record stays in the NO status for more than 24 hours it is deleted.

Since our process for posting is not automatic, if your post is time sensitive, please give us 24-48 hours to post. The Daily Summary comes out at 6 every evening and we do our best to process all YESES before 6. Sometimes that is not possible as we are not at the computer.

There is one other rare technical mishap that we have experienced. Our posting process takes 2 steps. Very rarely the post inexplicably disappears after the first step and we have no way of posting or retrieving it or contacting the poster.

Please contact us if ever your post is not successful.

Yardwork/general labor etc available

Submitted By: padraic@xyyd.org – Click to email about this post
After a gratefully busy summer laboring on the exteriors of the homes of many BBQ users, I finally have some openings in my upcoming schedule. I’m available for weed management, landscaping, blackberry removal, pruning, hauling stuff (small pickup truck), and all kinds of all things of that nature – also open to lots of other things such as cleaning, chopping fire wood, unpleasant jobs involving shovels, etc. I’m basically just available to help with stuff in general.
I did so much weedwhacking this summer that I decided to upgrade to a professionals weed-eater brush-cutter (maybe this only seems cool to me?). Also have a pressure-washer, a chainsaw, and a bunch of other tools.
I am an artistically-minded person and I enjoy being able to help people aesthetically enhance their environment to feel better about their homes (pointless and disgusting work is ok too, though). I have many references from local home owners as well as some local businesses that I have worked for as well, if that is a concern.
$30/hour. Text or call Patrick 503-488-0587

Thanks to everyone who I met over the summer!
