THere will also be a selection of perennials, grasses and a few ferns. Sea thrift, Douglas iris, Coastal strawberries, Seaside daisy,
and TUfted hairgrass are just a few.

Films to be screened are

SCHOOL OF FISH (Environmental – 2023)
Directors: Oliver Sutro, Colin Arisman
An intimate look at Indigenous culture and salmon fishing at Bristol Bay, Alaska, focusing on a family defending their history, future, and lifestyle against a proposed copper/gold/molybdenum mine (the Pebble Mine) which could pollute the bay they depend upon.

LIQUID HIGHWAY (Environmental – 2023)

LIVING LEGACIES (Environmental – 2024)
Director: Jesse Andrew Clark
Portrait of a grassroots movement to save an ecosystem a Pacific Northwest community depends on. Tells the story of a new land classification – “Legacy Forest” — gaining attention in Washington State.

THE BEST CHEF IN THE WORLD (Documentary – 2022)
Director: Ben Proudfoot
The true origins of The French Laundry restaurant, located in Napa Valley, California, and often recognized as the best restaurant in the world. Where balance, rather than recognition, is the ultimate prize.

WITH THE TIDE: A YAKUTAT SURF CLUB STORY (Documentary – 2023)
Director: Chelsea Jolly
Set in the remote village of Yakutat, Alaska. Follows the youth of the Tlingit tribe, over the span of four years, as they explore their relationship to the ocean, themselves, and the expanse of isolated wilderness they call home.

Two of the filmmakers are expected to be present for a Q&A session after the screening.

The evening will include a raffle for a pass to the 2025 McMinnville Short Film Festival to be held Feb. 27 to Mar. 2, 2025.

Last Chance Riverside Concert with Mojo Holler

Last chance to enjoy an outdoor Riverside Concert!

Mojo Holler
Saturday, September 7th from 6-8pm
North Fork 53 Communitea Wellness, off Hwy 53 in Nehalem

Get your tickets at the link below:
www.northfork53.com/events/p/mojo-holler-in-concert-saturday-september-7th-6-8pm

About the Band:

Mojo Holler weaves threads from mountain ranges to the Mississippi Delta into a tapestry of indie folk rock.

Musician Mister Baker channels innate genius through lap steel, slide, and dobro.

Missi is a genuine Appalachian ‘Mountain Mama’ whose vocals and percussion bring Southern heart and soul to each song.

Notable northwest musician and songwriter, Randy Yearout is on bass and acoustic guitars.

Willamette Week’s 2023 Best of Portland: “They sing about Mississippi boat queens, trains, juke joints, church bells—all things backwoods—with devotion and delicacy.”

The band formed in 2012 as the wife/husband duo Missi & Mister Baker. Their debut album, Where Black Ravens Flew, led to a showcase performance at South By Southwest in 2016.

The late Lisa Lepine, a Portland legend in music, said of their mission:

“They weave their dark, modern spirituals from shared roots in magic, Americana, and metaphysics.

Mister Baker, like Robert Johnson before him, may have made a deal with the devil — channeling an innate genius through lap steel, slide and dobro. Missi’s earthy voice brings burning intensity to each song.

Picture them sitting knee-to-knee on a Southern Delta, watching the dark moon rise and singing from their eternal souls.”

Don’t miss the last concert of the summer!

HONEY TASTING/PRESENTATION at the NCRD! (9/9)

Submitted By: jwmerc@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
It’s just one week away! Jeff (that’s me) Warren will be conducting a honey tasting & talk about so many things HONEY – with hopes of covering a lot of common questions asked at my weekly “pop-ups” – or curiosities that have been raised online.
SEATING IS LIMITED (capacity 30 – this can’t be changed) – held at the NCRD on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th beginning at 7:15 sharp and ending at 8:30 pm with time for questions following – and if anyone would like to make a purchase once that’s ended. Raw honeys being tasted will include a classic Willamette Valley Wildflower, Meadowfoam, Pumpkin Blossom, Chamisa and a surprise raw honey at the end.
If interested you should contact Jeff ASAP with a name and the # of people coming. Any donations to help offset room/materials cost are welcome – but hey – let’s learn and have some fun while doing it! So you know this is NOT a beekeeping class – though the role/conduct of a beekeeper will certainly be touched up on (I am not one).
Jeffrey Warren – owner/operator – JW Merc – jwmerc@gmail.com, JW Merc on Facebook – and via text to my cell: 208-424-0042 – see you next week at the NCRD!!! JW

Register for the Tillamook County Master Recyclers Course www.heartofcartm.org/master-recyclers-fall-2024

Tillamook County Solid Waste Department and Heart of Cartm have joined forces to revitalize the Master Recyclers Course with fresh, engaging content. With generous funding from the Oregon Community Foundation – BottleDrop Fund, Visit Tillamook Coast, and Tillamook County Solid Waste, the course has received an exciting update. Heart of Cartm crafted the new curriculum, while Deer Island Studio designed a vibrant new logo and advertising materials to bring this critical program to life.

Classes begin on Sept 14th and continue Tuesdays 5pm to 8pm and Saturdays 9am to 1pm through Oct. 1st.

The revamped course offers fresh material on reuse, repair and recycling education packed into several short classes, making it easier and more convenient for busy residents to attend. While content would be engaging for youth with an adult present, the course is designed for residents age 16 and older.

Whether you’re new to recycling or looking to deepen your knowledge, this updated program is the perfect opportunity to learn from experts, participate in hands-on activities, and connect with others passionate about sustainability.

And, the course is completely free!

Graduates of the program will be prepared to volunteer in Tillamook County as educators and advocates within their communities, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices. The course is offered at no cost, with a volunteer service project serving as an exchange. Each unique project allows participants to apply their new skills and make a tangible impact on local sustainability efforts.

Nehalem Bay State Park to be CLOSED for Construction

Submitted By: ben.cox@oregon.gov – Click to email about this post
The Nehalem Bay State Park campground, Horizon Lane park entrance, and day use areas west of the main park entry road will be temporarily closed for construction from Nov. 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 to install new water lines, electricity, entry road improvements, restrooms and shower buildings.

The day use area including the main Garey Street entrance, will be closed Dec. 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The day use area closure will be delayed one month to allow use of the boat
ramp and the trails on the east side of the main entry road. Water and electricity may be intermittent in the day use areas in November as construction gets underway.

The beach will remain open for walk-in use from outside of the park.

The closure timeline is subject to change based on the dynamic nature of this complex project. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve the park.
