Writing Alive! Workshops, rooted in The Amherst Method, supports the writing process by emphasizing the good. First draft writing enlivened by an experimental, free approach can soar beyond previous bounds. Knowing the good in our work will be found and celebrated, seen and heard, helps us take necessary risks and learn from the expression of our best.

Each workshop is prompt-based, with 2-4 opportunities to write and read aloud in each workshop, for every writer. Writers always have the option to pass — no one is forced to read prematurely. Writers may bring their own work-in-progress and use the dedicated writing time in the workshop to advance their own goals. Writers work at their own level of experience and may write in many different genres during a single 5- or 10-week period. All genres are welcome.

Some craft exercises are included. Most prompts offered are poems or prose passages written by contemporary or long-standing established writers; writings from philosophers or spiritual teachers associated with varied paths to understanding. We endeavor, as writers, to stretch ourselves into uncomfortable territories. Support and positive feedback assist us to do this.

Dana Cunningham Anderson, M.S., is a certified facilitator with The Amherst Method; an experienced editor in possession of several decades’ of acquired knowledge; a retired psychotherapist; an active, professional visual artist; and a meditator. With Writing Alive!, which she founded in 2015, Dana experiences the perfect mating of The Joy of Facilitation with The Pleasure of Writing, Often, With Others.

LOOKING FOR: styro-pellets

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Hi and thanks to Barbara and Chuck for this service. I need some styro-pellets aka Styrofoam peanuts. The kind that dissolves in water won’t work for me. I can pick them up from your home or business. Thanks to anyone who might help. Patty-503-368-6081. Thank you all for purchasing bulbs from Friends of North County Recreation District. We are getting ready to set up sales for dahlia tubers. Sometime in May they will be available, and Friends will let you know when and where. If you have purchased tubers in previous years and they didn’t produce as you expected, please take tubers from this year’s sale for free.

Men of North County: We Need Your Clothes!

Submitted By: northtillamookcountyfoodbank@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The men’s section is looking very thin at the Clothing Bank at North County Food Bank in Wheeler. Do you have some extra clothes to spare? We especially welcome work clothes, such as flannel shirts, sweatshirts, and cotton t-shirts. Gently used work boots and practical shoes are needed as well.

We also welcome your donations of children’s clothing, toys, books, and shoes. Women’s clothing and shoes too!

The Clothing Bank is really popular and we’ve been serving 150 or more people per month, so our stock has been hit pretty hard. If you’re doing a spring cleanout, please think of us!

We can take donations Tuesdays from 12 – 3 pm at the Food Bank at 278 Rowe St. in Wheeler–across from Nehalem Bay Clinic and Pharmacy. If you can’t donate then, please email us at northtillamookcountyfoodbank@gmail.com and we will arrange a pickup.

Thanks for being such a great community!

An 8 mm video camera

Submitted By: nehalembayexperience@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
My wonderful old 8mm needs to be put up on a shelf and I need a replacement. Not concerned with the camera aspect of the unit but the clear play back of tapes. Also need it to have separate audio (white)/video (yellow) output ports. Glad to pay a reasonable price and will take very good care of the camera. Cheers, Drew.

Community Member seeking honest work

Submitted By: Xmiller1324@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi North Coast Community!

My name is Bill Miller and I’m still fairly new to the area. I am currently working as a vet technician at Nehalem Animal Healing Center. I now own my first cat “Angel”, and have loved animals all my life. Working at the vet is a part-time opportunity, and I have been doing odd jobs on the side to help make a living.

I am friendly, compassionate, a very hard worker, and I pay close attention to detail. I’ve mostly been doing landscaping and house cleaning since moving to the coast. I currently reside in Nehalem, near the Animal Rescue. I always come to work with a positive attitude. I have 11 years of experience in the restaurant industry so I am no stranger to hard labor and cleanliness. I have gone through extensive training, including serve safe certification. If I am hired as a cleaner I make sure to use proper products and procedures. No matter what, I make sure the job is done right the first time!
I am primarily looking for yard work jobs in the area, as I love to work outdoors, however I am willing to clean kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, you name it. We are never to good to do a job, even if it’s dirty. I work quickly, efficiently and ask for very reasonable compensation. If there are pets involved I am more than happy to help take care of them as well! I am a natural with all types of animals, and I am trained to do nail trims as an additional service if needed. If anyone is in need of a reliable, honest, hardworking guy to help out at home, please feel free to reach out to me on here. Also my personal cell phone is fine (413) 695-2215! You may also contact me via email at, xmiller1324@gmail.com. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!

Best Wishes, Sincerely, Bill Miller

Looking for a good guitar

Submitted By: ryanjpedersen@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello community. I am in need of a good acoustic guitar: full body, steel string, good sound. I have an acoustic electric that just doesn’t cut it. Of course I could go buy something new, but I’ve always had guitars with soul and life already used into them. I prefer it that way, don’t mind bruises. If anyone has a good acoustic that is gathering dust or that they’re interested in selling, let me know. Thanks, as always and happy Spring!

Some of you in north county are already familiar with what I carry in my little “traveling store” (or ‘roadside booth’ as I like to call it) – and now I am searching for a new place to set up on a periodic basis! Given a choice I would like to find myself somewhere between Rockaway Beach and Astoria.
To learn more about my needs/scheduling etc please reach out to me via the provided e-mail: jwmerc@gmail.com – or directly to my phone via text: 208-424-0042. Anyone is free to scroll through the JW Merc Facebook page to see the other items in my booth – the way I present/promote myself etc.
Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions going forward into 2024! JW
