Civic Saturday Sermon

Submitted By: codger817@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Join us Saturday, March 8 at 10 am for Tillamook County’s version of “Civic Saturdays” with Jim Heffernan hosting. The sermons explore new and better ways to be a citizen. They are aimed at developing “citizenship muscle. We will need “muscle” to bring power back to “We the People”, where it belongs. Each sermon functions as a stand-alone sermon. Don’t worry about missing earlier sessions.

This week’s sermon is “Legitimate Doubts” and is 34 minutes long and will explore our doubts about our government, our democracy, and our union. We can talk about the sermon afterwards, or not.

LARGE PIECES of CARDBOARD

Submitted By: sheila.bayside@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I am creating a no dig landscaping area at my house. I need oodles of big card board pieces to put on the ground. Big appliance boxes are great, for example.

I am in Nehalem. I will pickup. Or, if you have a lot, which would require more than one load in my compact Crossover SUV, perhaps, if your vehicle can haul more, I could pay you to drop your cardboard off at my house in Bayside Gardens/Nehalem

Thank you, Sheila Moran

Submitted By: susantone@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
For the Month of March NTLF Art in the Library Series presents the work of Lauren Oujiri, artist and photographer living in Nehalem. Lauren’s work has been featured in gallery exhibits and retail environments and are now on display at the Manzanita Library. Lauren loves sharing landscapes and intimate moments of our beloved North Coast along with close-ups of flowers, abstracts, and other subjects on social media daily (#laurenoujiri).  Lauren finds photography and creating art to be calming, illuminating, joyful, educational, and fascinating, and is grateful when people say they experience it that way, too. She believes we all are artists, that the world and each of us benefit from creating art, and, that “Life is Art.”

Democrats destroyed Ukraine: please stop pretending this is Trump’s war

Submitted By: runnawaytrain1@gmx.com – Click to email about this post
Russia lost 50-million soldiers fighting Nazis in WW2.
Without Russia’s help, we in America would be speaking German.
Thank you Russia!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of the war, NATO/US agreed NOT TO EXPAND NATO OR ENCROACH UPON THE RUSSIAN BORDER.
Then the US/NATO war pigs decided to violate the peace agreement, again and again, for years (this war has been planned for a LONG TIME) and start provoking Russia, in a most vile, genocidal manner I will add.
First, Barak Obama overthrew the democratically-elected gov’t of Ukraine (With USAID money btw) and installed Nazi-aligned (i.e., Azimov Batallian, ACTUAL UKRAINIAN NAZIS, with swastikas and the whole 9-yards) thugs who would be willing to provoke Russia into a NATO/US-led war.
Then we (Democrats) put three bio-weapons labs on the Ukrainian border.
Then we (Democrats) put missiles into Poland that can be retrofitted with nuclear war heads in two hours, then be able to nuke Moscow in 7-minutes. (would we tolerate Russian nukes in Tijuana or Quebec?)
And we have been/are constantly pushing other countries toward NATO membership, continually violating the terms of the end of WW2 peace agreement with Russia.
What does ‘support Ukraine’ mean to Democrats? Send them more weapons? They’ve lost 600,000 people. That number DOES NOT include injuries, and the country is destroyed. How does sending weapons to Ukraine support them? They haven’t a chance of ‘winning’ in a war with Russia. (But a weak/destroyed Ukraine won’t be able to hold on the billions of minerals under their soil that NATO/US plans to steal.)
All Russia wanted is for NATO to honor the WW2 agreement and stay the f*ck out of Ukraine, which included NOT PUTTING NUKES IN POLAND!!!!!!
If NATO/US (Democrats) had honored the PEACE AGREEMENT after WW2, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE – END OF STORY.
The words ‘Democrat’ and ‘peace’ are NOT synonimous.
It’s so frustrating watching Dems freak out on Trump after witnessing their silence during the worst war-pig administration of my lifetime, the Biden Admin. Worse than the war criminals Dubya and Dick. And war was only one of the ways that last corrupt administration brought more hell to our world and weakened our country.
So here is some history about the US-Democrat-led destruction of Ukraine (which included FROM THE BEGINNING the planned theft of billions of dollars of their minerals) from award-winning director of JFK and Platoon, Oliver Stone:
rumble.com/vwsh2k-ukraine-on-fire-2016-oliver-stone-director-igor-lopatonok-mirror.html
and here are some Democrat war-pigs still being war-pigs, despite all the death and destruction they have already caused worldwide:
rumble.com/v6q7v1g-trump-exposes-pro-war-democrats-w-matt-taibbi.html?e9s=src_v1_ucp
What does it mean to say “I support Ukraine”? For Democrats, it means sending more weapons to kill more people. Then steal their mineral wealth.
And quite frankly, I find the typical Democrat position on Ukraine ignorant and extremely repugnant, to the tune of 600,000 dead Ukrainians…and counting…

SEE IT THIS WEEKEND!

Riverbend Players launched the 2025 season with our first-ever Agatha Christie murder mystery—playing to huge crowds!

With six remaining shows, THE MOUSETRAP runs through March 16th at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem.

THE MOUSETRAP by Agatha Christie
Directed by Randy Schultz:

A classic murder mystery occurs in Monkswell Manor, a guesthouse where a snowstorm traps a group of strangers.

As news arrives of a murder nearby, the guests realize that the killer might be among them.

Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives to investigate, but as tensions rise and secrets are uncovered, another murder occurs.

The play is famous for its surprise twist ending, and audiences are traditionally asked to keep the plot’s resolution a secret.

The Mousetrap holds the world record as the longest-running play, debuting in 1952 and remaining continuously on stage.

Get your 2025 SEASON PASS now and save 20% on tickets. It’s only available until March 16th.

Trump/Musk Medicaid Cuts & Oregon’s Filial Responsiblility Law

Submitted By: genedieken@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
The recently passed House GOP budget road map seeks to make massive cuts to Medicaid. This means that elders and others who now rely primarily on Medicaid to cover nursing home or memory care costs will lose that assistance in whole or in part. Oregon has filial care laws (ORS 109.010, et al) that could require adult children to cover the Medicaid loses of their parents.
I’m not an expert in this area but if it’s possible you could be affected, it might be wise to start investigating/planning.

Celebration of Life – Beverly Miles Stephens – March 22

Submitted By: laura@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Beverly Joanne (Miles) Stephens
September 15, 1936 – February 28, 2025

Bev passed away in Seaside, Oregon on February 28, 2025 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stephens and her beloved son “Bobby” Stephens. She is survived by her daughter Karen; her daughter-in-law Marcy; her grandchildren Derek Stephens and wife Amanda, and Devon Stephens; her great grandchildren Addison and Ella Stephens; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

What really set Beverly apart is that she was a true Tillamook County pioneer. She was born in Manzanita in the family home right off of Laneda Avenue. While she was being delivered her next-door neighbor Shirley (Adamscheck) Potter sat on the front steps waiting for Bev to make her appearance. That day a friendship was born that would last a lifetime. The two friends; Phyllis Nadine (Stephens) Marti and Phyllis Ann (Kane) Stephens grew up together and were friends and sisters all their lives. Bev spent almost all of her life in and around the Nehalem Valley. She was proud to be a local and from one of the intergenerational families that have called Nehalem Valley home for decades.

Graveside services will be held at Nehalem American Legion Cemetery at 10755 Necarney City Road Nehalem, Oregon March 22nd at 2:00pm followed immediately by a gathering to celebrate her with cakes and coffee at the White Clover Grange at 36585 Oregon Highway 53. Please join family and friends of Beverly and share the celebration of a woman who loved her family, friends, community, and cake.

Writers to Celebrate the Rising Tide in Stories, Poems at Library Event

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
A rising tide lifts all boats, but for 13 writers who will participate in the Writers Read Celebration at the Cannon Beach Library on March 7, a rising tide is the theme flowing through their stories and poems.

From shipwrecks to wrack lines, the pieces to be read by Oregon, Washington and Canadian writers explore the meanings and metaphors of “rising tide,” this year’s theme for the library’s annual writing project.

The seventh annual Writers Read Celebration will begin at 7 p.m.; admission is free. People can attend in person at the library, 131 Hemlock St., or online; the link will be on the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org.

Fifteen pieces to be read include stories, poems and haikus. Topics include a woman who lifts a whale off the beach, flowers floating from Ukraine, a body to be buried, a morning and evening spent at Haystack Rock and a nod to political currents.

This is the seventh year that the library’s NW Authors Series Committee asked writers from everywhere to submit works on a specific theme. Writers could submit up to three entries in any format limited to 600 words per entry.

Of the 85 entries, the committee, after a blind reading, selected 15 pieces to be read by 13 writers. One of those writers is from Alberta, Canada.

Those invited to read this year were:
John Ciminello, Naselle, WA, poem: King Tides at Cape Disappointment
Deanna Duplechain, Seaside, OR, short story: Seeing Saturday
Christie Ellis, Astoria, flash fiction: All at Sea
Kristi Lund, Nehalem, OR, poem: Heeding the Tide
Mimi Maduro, Cape Meares, OR, haiku, Three Haiku
Colleen Medlock, Portland/Seaside, OR, flash fictions: Shifting Tides and A Light in a Storm
Russell Myers, Vancouver, WA, flash fiction: The Body
Jennifer Nightingale, Astoria, OR, poems: She Knows the Tide is Rising and Gifts from the Wrack Line
Grace Page, Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, poem: An Evening Walk to Haystack
Robert Michael Pyle, Gray’s River, WA, poem: All Boats Rise
Florence Sage, Astoria, OR, poem: But Never Mind
Phyllis Thompson, Manzanita, OR, poem: The Tides
Evan Morgan Williams, Portland, OR, flash fiction: The Great Black Shape

40 letters in 40 Days; a Lenten Journey

Submitted By: lufkinali@hotmail.com – Click to email about this post
The Saint Catherine Community
invites you to join us in our Lent challenge of
writing 40 letters in 40 days.
During times of upheaval and uncertainty, it’s common for withdrawal, overwhelm and despair to set in.
Through letter-writing (to our representatives in congress, to local organizations we appreciate, to ourselves, to friends and neighbors), we allow our deepest concerns, appreciation, ‘voice’ to find their expression. During Lent, we will dig deep to find what it is we most want/need to express. We will gather at St Cats every Monday night at 5pm to nourish and support one another. We will have music, poetry, envelopes, stamps, letter samples, ideas, addresses available to support us in writing a letter a day, until Easter, to grow love in our world.

Consider joining us!!
