A request to older drivers on 101

Submitted By: Blahblahmortimer@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Dear friends and neighbors, in recent trips up and down 101, I’ve noticed a number of older drivers driving 15 or more miles an hour below the speed limit.

I just followed someone from Arch Cape to the Laneda Drive turn in manzanita. They were driving an older black SUV whose top speed was 42 miles an hour slowing to below 35 in the curves.

Weather isn’t bad, no cars in front, 15 cars following.

This is dangerous. Impatient drivers will pass when they shouldn’t, cars stacked up like this are a hazard and against the law.

It’s unsafe and rude.

Please work on situational awareness while driving.

If this doesn’t apply to you, then keep you’re blood pressure down and chill!

Valuable item found at Oswald West

Submitted By: jomomorris51@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I often find lost items when visiting Smuggler’s Cove. There’s a small hollow in one of the trees where I’ve placed car keys, camera lens caps, eye glasses, jewelry, clothing items, etc., as well as child toys. Sometimes they appear to have been recently lost, which is true of this item.
On a recent visit someone else had placed something valuable in that spot. I didn’t leave it there but took it away and have it. If you can provide an accurate description as well as the approximate time frame that you lost it, I will gladly return it.

These barstools swivel, are adjustable in height (they can fit bar or counter height) and have a foot rail. The white “leather” is synthetic material. Please note the wear on the seat fabric.

These are not mine but belonged to a person who posted them on the bbq recently so my info of their history is limited.

Manzanita City Council Janurary 8 2025

Submitted By: mkuestner10@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
You can follow this link to watch the January 8, 2025 Manzanita City Council meeting. Congratulations to our newly-elected Mayor and those Councilors who were officially sworn in! ci.manzanita.or.us/city-council/
There were Interesting updates on the work to begin soonish to install new water infrastructure on Classic St., and beyond, the status of our New Police Station and City Hall, etc. It’s exciting that construction will hopefully enable the Affordable Housing Development proposed off Necarney City Rd. to proceed.
An update on the current cost of the odd lawsuit against the City of Manzanita by Randy Kugler, Laura Swanson and Will Stone: so far Manzanita’s legal bills are about $25,000. The City may have a positive resolution to the suit by mid-January (i.e. it is found to be without merit).
Also, the costs to the City of Manzanita so far for the Bond Issue on Monthly vs. Quarterly Water Billing that resident Kugler forced on the City is up to $36,000. The costs for this will be borne, ironically by the Water Fund.
It’s a shame that this combined $62,000+ won’t be available to help with Manzanita’s many serious priorities.

COASTAL FUTURES:
Building Resilient Connections Between Ecology & Community in Rockaway Beach, Oregon
Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM. North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) invites you to St. Mary by the Sea Catholic Parish in Rockaway for a presentation by Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) students from the University of Oregon (UO). Their research, Coastal Futures, focuses on climate change adaptation strategies for coastal communities in Oregon and is led by Ignacio López Busón, a UO Assistant Professor of Climate Change Resilience.
For the past three months, the students have visited and analyzed Rockaway Beach, meeting with local stakeholders to understand the values and challenges of our local community, including coastal erosion, sea level rise, deforestation, drinking water quality, and urban development. This presentation will showcase their research on sustainable coastal practices and explore paths for long-term resilience.
All community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about coastal sustainability issues and engage in a discussion about planning for a more environmentally and socially resilient future.
Free to attend. Bread from WolfMoon Bakery and soup from Manzanita Wild will be served.
Saturday, January 18 at Noon (doors open at 11:30 AM)
St Mary by the Sea Catholic Church
275 S Pacific St, Rockaway Beach, OR 97136
Join us online if you can’t come! uoregon.zoom.us/j/94779163801

As a matter of necessity and regardless of land ownership, NCCWP demands no more logging and no more pesticide spraying within our drinking-watersheds. Safe drinking water and clean air are part of the public trust that we all are entitled to have. Please help North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection safeguard and restore our drinking watersheds.
