Update on Appeal of Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development

Submitted By: lyndsey.nccwp@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Update on the Appeal of the Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development:
As most of you know, the RB City Council voted unanimously in December to deny the Appeal of the Nedonna Wave PUD. Thankfully, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition has filed an appeal with the Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). Oregon Shores is getting legal help from the Crag Law Center.
We hope this action will help prevent further development in the area for several important reasons: First, this land is a wetland that deserves protection; second, the development would be built on top of an aquifer, which serves as Rockaway Beach’s backup water source, and could pose a risk of contamination; finally, Nedonna Beach has only one road (egress) which is already insufficient in case of emergencies such as a medical emergency, floods, fires, storms, ocean surges and tsunami. Nedonna already has over 360 homes, adding more would exacerbate this safety concern.

Pictured is a map of the proposed PUD with a circle around lots 17, 18 and 19. Also included are some photos of what these lots look like right now. For reference, the blue line represents Song St, and the Green line is Kittiwick St.

Crag Law Center is doing this legal work pro bono, and would be grateful for any donations.

Modern coffee table

Submitted By: bjp4544@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
Had this in our monthly furnished rental since 2019 – it’s beautiful. But … it just took a little damage to the top (hard to see but it’s bugging me enough to replace it) and first $20 takes it. We paid a little over $500. It’s heavy – about 100 pounds. Other than the blemish on the top (size of a quarter coin) … it’s perfect. Text Bret at 503-939-3927 with any questions. In Manzanita – $20.

Let modern inspiration flow while gathered around the Lippa 42″ Oval Artificial Marble Coffee Table. Perfect for hosting a morning cup of coffee or entertaining family and friends, this pedestal table features a spacious surface. Its oval tabletop is crafted with artificial marble and a beveled edge for a contemporary yet timeless design. Embodying an iconic mid-century silhouette, this pedestal coffee table floats on a sleek tapered metal pedestal base with a chip-resistant lacquered finish. Includes non-marking felt pad to protect flooring. 16.5” H X 42” L X 27.5” W

MUSICAL STORYTIME AT THE LIBRARY

Musical Storytime, a monthly hands-on musical instrument experiences for local preschool children, will be held on Monday, January 13th at 10:00
a.m. at the North Tillamook Library in Manzanita. The event will be repeated on Thursday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. in the Kids MakeTheatre classroom at the Liberty Theatre in Astoria in partnership with the Astoria Library and Liberty Theatre. This month’s story, Owl Babies, is
a delightful children’s classic – a gentle tale of three baby owls celebrating the bond between mothers and their children. With stunning illustrations
and a live accompaniment by North Oregon Coast Symphony musician Shelley Loring on flute, children and parents alike will enjoy the happy ending. Children will learn more about the flute and piccolo as Loring demonstrates her instruments. Children will be able to play a wind instrument after the story. This event is free and open to children ages 3-5
and their adults.
The North Oregon Coast Symphony, North Tillamook Library, and Astoria Library have formed a partnership to bring live music and hands-on
musical instrument experiences to the northern coast of Oregon. For more information please visit NOCS website nocsymphony.org.

Hello Sewists Artists and Crafters

Submitted By: cindy.obtd@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I am reaching out to see if there would be enough interest in the community for the White Clover Grange to host weekly/monthly/bi-monthly (?) gatherings of like-minded groups and individuals to gather to collaborate and create in a beautiful space, trade skills; ideas; and maybe even materials, and develop relationships within the community. This would be free for community members with an optional donation to maintain our historic building. Anybody in? I’d love to hear from you. Any input, ideas, and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Coastal Futures-A presentation by students from University of Oregon

COASTAL FUTURES:
Building Resilient Connections Between Ecology & Community in Rockaway Beach, Oregon
North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) invites you to the St. Mary by the Sea Parish Hall in Rockaway Beach on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 noon for a presentation by Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) students from the University of Oregon (UO). Their research project, entitled Coastal Futures, focuses on climate change adaptation strategies for coastal communities in Oregon and it’s led by Ignacio López Busón, a UO Assistant Professor of Climate Change Resilience. (St. Mary by the Sea is located at 275 S. Pacific St. in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.)
For the past three months, the students have visited and analyzed Rockaway Beach, meeting with local stakeholders to understand the values and challenges of the local community. Some of these challenges include coastal erosion, sea level rise, deforestation, drinking water quality, and urban development. This presentation will focus on their research regarding sustainable coastal practices and explore paths for long-term resilience. Everyone who is concerned about these issues is invited to attend to learn more about coastal sustainability and to engage in a discussion about planning for a more environmentally and socially-resilient future.
There will be no charge to attend. Bread from Wolfmoon Bakery and soup from Manzanita Wild will be served.
Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 noon (doors open at 11:30 a.m.)

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week: Ricky and Molly
Meet Ricky and Molly, two of the fabulous kittens currently being fostered at United Paws while they await their forever homes.

Ricky is a social butterfly, friendly and outgoing with every cat and person he meets. Ricky loves to sit in your lap for pets, perch on top of your paperwork while you work, or perhaps even stretch across your warm keyboard. He simply loves to hang out with you, but when the mood strikes, Ricky plays like a ninja fighter! His favorite toys include the spring and wand toy, and since he loves to play with other cats, he would do best in a home with a playmate or two.

Ricky was found as a tiny kitten living alone in a neighborhood. He needed a lot of TLC, but he is now a healthy, happy, energetic kitten who thrives on human interaction! You can view Ricky in action at his YouTube playlist via his QR code.

Perhaps you need a kitten to come into your life and take charge. Molly is an independent boss lady and she keeps her litter mates in line. She is also very playful and loves the attention of her people. Molly is curious and enjoys exploring new things, and though she can come off shy at first, she warms up with wonderful snuggles and is quick to purr. Molly currently resides in a loving foster home that includes other kittens, dogs and children. Watch Molly doing her thing on her YouTube Playlist via her QR code.

You can learn more about these kittens and others available for adoption at unitedpaws.wordress.com. Please complete an adoption application and get pre-approved. Once pre-approved, you can schedule a “Meet & Greet.” Please email unitedpawsapps@gmail.com or call United Paws at 503-842-5663 for more information.

A giant thanks to all you who gave so generously to our friends and neighbors here in North Tillamook County. Starting before Thanksgiving many of you offered to help in a variety of ways and it was absolutely wonderful! Please take a minute to pat yourselves on the back! Your support is what makes all these non-profits work. Your donation brings a lot of comfort to people who are barely getting by. You’ve got to admit sharing what you have puts a little smile on your face-and others too.
Thanks again, Patty
