Fictional Game Show Manzanita Jeopardy

Submitted By: Wstone1991@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
[Opening Scene: The Jeopardy! theme song plays. The camera zooms in on the stage where the host, a charismatic and witty character, stands behind a podium labeled “Manzanita Jeopardy!”]

Host: Welcome, everybody, to Manzanita Jeopardy! It’s the game show where knowing your city budget could win you some serious bragging rights. I’m your host, Bob Ledger, and today we’ve got three contestants who are ready to put their fiscal knowledge of Manzanita to the test! Let’s meet them!

[The camera pans to the first contestant, a middle-aged man in a suit.]

Host: Our first contestant is Dave, an
accountant who claims he can balance a budget blindfolded. Welcome, Dave.

Dave: Ready to crunch some numbers,Bob.

[The camera moves to the second contestant, a woman in a bright blouse.]

Host: Next up, we have Linda, a city planner who says she knows every
inch of Manzanita. Is that true, Linda?

Linda: Absolutely, Bob! From Neahkahnie to Nehalem Bay park, I’ve got it all mapped out.

[The camera shifts to the third contestant, a young man wearing a t-shirt with the words “Budget Hero.”]

Host: And last but not least, we have Tim, a college student majoring in public administration. Hi, Tim!

Tim: Thanks, Bob! I’ve been studying those city budget reports like they’re
my final exams.

Host: Fantastic! Let’s get right into our categories for today.
They are: ‘Legal Expenses,’ ‘Hidden Investigations,’ ‘City Planning,’ ‘Water Fund Transfers,’ and ‘Severance Packages.’ Dave, as our first contestant, why don’t you pick a category?

Dave: I’ll take ‘Legal Expenses’ for $1,000, Bob.

[The screen shows the clue: “$44,000”]

Host: Dave,
your response?

Dave: What is
“How much was spent on Manzanita’s legal expenses for the month of May.”

Host: Correct! It was a startling number for an investigation everyone assumed was winding down. But the legal costs keep growing. Moving on, Linda, it’s your turn.

Linda: I’ll go with ‘Hidden Investigations’ for $1,000, Bob.

[The screen shows the clue: “The total legal fees for a hidden investigation that council refused
to release.”]

Host: Linda?

Linda:
What is over $200,000?

Host:
Can you be more specific, Linda?

Linda: Well, I could if the city would release the invoices, but they won’t. I know it’s at least $200,000 now and it may keep growing.

Host: Sorry, Linda. I can’t accept that answer. The correct answer is What is the sky’s the limit.

Tim, you’re next.

Tim: I’ll take ‘City Planning’ for $1,000.

[The screen shows the clue: “About 10 feet”]

Host: Tim?

Tim:
“What distance from planned was the location where the new City Hall was mistakenly placed”

Host: You’ve got it! You’d figure with all the money the city spends on consultants, they could get closer than that. Or at least check it out before burying all that concrete.

Anyhow, Dave, back to you.

Dave: ‘Water Fund Transfers’ for $1,000.

[The screen shows the clue: “$645,000”]

Host: Dave?

Dave:
“What is the total amount transferred from the water fund to the general fund in the last four years.”

Host: Correct! Manzanita has really been draining the water fund. The
lawyers and consultants have to be
paid from somewhere. We’ll worry about infrastructure later.
And finally, Linda, you get the last category.

Linda: I’ll take ‘Severance Packages’ for $1,000.

[The screen shows the clue: ” 50%”]

Host: Linda?

Linda:
“What is the percentage increase in severance for the city manager recently authorized by the city council.?”

Host: That’s right! A deal for 9 months’ severance for leaving sounds pretty sweet, especially with ongoing rising legal fees. That brings us to the end of our first round and this episode of Manzanita Jeopardy. Tune in next time for Manzanita Double Jeopardy!, where the stakes, the consulting fees and the legal fees—get even higher! See you next time everybody.

Mindfulness in Motion Weekly tai chi and qigong

Submitted By: wingsforwisdom@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Mindfulness in Motion = Movement as Medicine

Enjoy tai chi and / or qigong as a regular part of your wellness. These moving arts are ancient and their benefits, many. Harvard Medical Newsletter touted 8 active ingredients when they studied tai chi they say works like a multi drug having a positive synergistic affect on human health and wellbeing producing a variety of good effects such as reducing falls in older people by improving muscular strength and coordination, better general function due to improved posture and alignment… The list goes on and includes benefits that promote longevity and are anticancer which as a health and wellness coach, I support. 8 active ingredients of this delicious nutritious moving wellness art form are listed below my current schedule. The key is in regularity as well…

Please join me on the fitness floor in any of the following opportunities through June:

Mindfulness in Motion at NCRD Gym 11am
Tuesday Tai Chi ~ flow ~ ~ ~
Thursday Qigong ~ Seasonal healing and silk reeling

Friday June 14 8:30am Tai chi flow ~ ~ ~
Rockaway Beach Community Center
2310 Highway 101N
(small building just past the High School)

Also, Join Juli Stratton on the beach for Tai Chi by the Sea 1st and 3rd Wednesdays in the mornings. You can find her post in Events here on BBQ.

8 active ingredients that make tai chi and qigong the multifaceted medicine they are:

1) Awareness
2) Intention
3) Structural Integration
4) Active relaxation
5) Strengthening and flexibility
6) Natural, freer breathing
7) Social support
8) Embodied spirituality

The above is according to Harvard Medical Schools tai chi study program. I know some teachers that say this is great to hear and hopefully gets more people in the door and on the floor. They also say, this practice is so ancient, why pick it apart? Just jump in the tao, play, train, enjoy the ride and the benefits!

Thank you for your time. I hope to see you soon.

These go for between $349 and $399 new. I bought a new grill. Terrific condition as you can see. The small piece of grate that flips up on one side is in two pieces – not a big issue – doesn’t affect grilling if anything. Original owner – in Manzanita. Text Bret with any questions, more pics or would like to view. 503.939.3927

Would make a great Dad’s Day gift. $80. Thanks

Get grilling with the original infrared grilling fuel using Napoleon’s PRO Charcoal Kettle Grill. This compact kettle grill saves space, but can still grill up to 23 hamburgers at once. You’ll know it’s a Napoleon with the iconic WAVE™ cooking grids for those distinctive sear marks. Easy access, hinged, porcelainized cast iron cooking grids make adding more charcoal or woodchips effortless, while three cooking heights and masterful airflow management provide precise temperature control. The improved PRO Air Control system increases air and temperature accuracy. A large stainless steel heat diffuser lifts the charcoal up off the bowl of the kettle evenly radiating heat throughout the grill and directing spent charcoal down to the ash catcher. On the outside, this grill shines. The powder-coated steel body shrugs off the elements. The lid features an offset hinge that opens, allowing access to the whole cooking surface while keeping your hands away from the heat.

Celebration and Fundraiser for Nehalem Bay Health Center features Blue Band

Ken Boddie, a four decade-long fixture of Portland’s KOIN 6 TV, will be on the north coast later this month to serve as MC of a community celebration and fundrasier for the new Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy.

The Sunday, June 23 event at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem will feature the national and international blues recording artist Rick Estrin and his band The Night Cats.

Tickets are available at Ticket Tomato: www.tickettomato.com/event/8701/rick-estrin-amp-the-nightcats

“Ken is a big blues and jazz fan and has long supported the annual Waterfront Blues Festival and the Portland Jazz Festival,” said Rich Silverman of the North Coast Music Project who is producing the NCRD show. “It’s a natural for us to have him MC this great community event. And we are delighted he is able to be part of the event.”

Boddie recently relinquished his role as co-anchor of “KOIN 6 News This Morning” to accept a promotion to serve as the station’s political director. His distinguished journalism career includes a regional EMMY Award for his role anchoring “Eye on Northwest Politics.”

Getting to Know You/Conscious Aging and Community Connections

Submitted By: cardoons@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
The conscious aging and community connections program is held on the second Monday of each month from 2-4pm. Sponsorship by the Pine Grove Community House allows us to keep admission at $5 per session.
All proceeds go directly to the Pine Grove Community House.

Our overall program goals are to bring people in our community together, to get to know one another at a deeper level, and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives.Everyone is welcome to join us!

On June 10th, the theme for our gathering is “getting to know you”. Our intention is to lighten things up a bit, creating community through playful interactive FUN!

Come prepared to share something unique about yourself. It should be true, but not something people generally know about you….the more unusual, unbelievable, and / or quirky the better. It should be something you can write in a few words, not more than a sentence.

In this session, we’re just going to play and have fun….maybe even get downright silly. And in the process of playfully getting to know one another, we are actually creating community. As we share moments in laughter, we are actually building trust. And while having fun is a good enough reason all by itself, the trust we build will be all important in later sessions as we begin to address some of the more difficult conversations around conscious aging.

So come, let your guard down for a couple hours and have some fun!!
June 10th, 2 – 4pm at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita.

Next Financial Wellness Class for Women starts July 2

Submitted By: liz@mindfulmoneycoaches.com – Click to email about this post
Hi, neighbors!

The next LIVE Mindful Money Method class starts on July 2nd.

It’s a calling of mine to support women in reducing financial overwhelm and increasing overall confidence while setting them up for a future they love.

Many women are feeling anxious about their financial future. I’m focused on helping them with a loving, kind and effective approach; it’s like yoga for your money.

Hundreds of women have changed their financial trajectory and will eventually change their legacy from learning to approach money with mindfulness. Their stories ranged from $240K in debt and not sleeping to $7M in net-worth and scared to spend any of it.

More importantly, they have built a healthy relationship with money and themselves. And the mindset work translates to other areas of their lives like health and relationships.

The small group class meets LIVE with me for nine Tuesdays at 1 PM PT on Zoom in addition to following the online course curriculum. The result is calm confidence in any financial decision thru awareness, clarity and vision for your financial future. I believe your best financial plan is the one you create and I will show you how.

This 5-star Google review course is best suited for women that feel like they weren’t taught about money, feel stuck with their earnings or paralyzed making financial decisions. We identify values & desires, create financial safety nets & debt payoff plans, determine our financial independence number, edit our money stories, and so much more.

The online course & LIVE class cost $457; however, women in Tillamook County can use coupon code LOCALS40 for a 40% discount. Registration closes on June 26.

Link to learn more & enroll: www.mindfulmoneymethod.com/yes

Don’t let finances stop you from learning. There are a few course scholarships available (scholarship deadline is 6/15) or I created the free financial wellness content available through the Tillamook County Wellness Program.

Warmly,
Liz Carroll
Financial Life & Wellness Coach

P.S. I am not a financial advisor and don’t make any financial recommendations. I empower you to make the best decisions for you.

P.S.S. Email me if you’d prefer to work 1:1. I have two spots available in July.

Aerial (drone) photography for your rental property, business, or vineyard

Submitted By: tylersimpson295@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi friends!

As an introduction, my name is Tyler. I primarily work as an environmentalist / conservationist along the coast (primarily in Cannon Beach). You might have actually seen me delivering wildlife + geological lectures there. When I am not teaching in the tidepools or working in the forests to aid in managing invasive species, I am privately teaching music theory / composition, as well as flying commercial drones (via geological surveys or real-estate)!

This summer, I’d like to share an opportunity to capture your rental property from a new perspective: the sky! AirBnB, FurnishedFinder, and other rental platforms have been aggressively pushing its hosts to provide aerial photos for a more modern allure, insisting that it will drive up both rental and retention rates.

I have commercially licensed and can assure you that all local laws will be adhered to. According to DJI’s globally released (annual) statistics, I have remained in the top 1% of “most time spent in air” across the entire globe’s database of pilots.

My portfolio is: NomadWithACamera.com

If you have a small business or vineyard that you’d like to capture, also feel free to contact me!

You will receive both edited and raw images post-shoot. Optional landscape videos are also available at an additional price. Rates vary depending on distance traveled and needs of project.

Best,
